In 1971, António Lobo Antunes’ life is ruthlessly hindered when he is drafted into the Portuguese Army to fill in as a specialist in one of the most exceedingly awful zones of the Colonial War – the East of Angola. Away from all that dear he composes letters to his better half while he is inundated in an inexorably brutal setting. While he moves between a few garrisons he falls head over heels for Africa and develops strategically. Next to him, a whole age battles and gives up for the get back. In the vulnerability of war occasions, just the letters can make him survive.
