In 1671, with war preparing with Holland, a poverty stricken sovereign welcomes Louis XIV to three days of celebrations at an estate in Chantilly. The ruler needs a commission as a general, so the excesses are to intrigue the lord. Responsible for everything is the steward, Vatel, a praiseworthy person, ability, and low birth. The sovereign is fearful in his aching for height: no errand is excessively modest or shameful for him to give Vatel. While Vatel attempts to support nobility, he ends up drawn to Anne de Montausier, the lord’s freshest special lady. In Vatel, she observes somebody who’s valid, experiencing his standards inside the easygoing savageries of court governmental issues. Would both of them be able to get away from unscathed?
